Eoghan Rua 1-06 v Newbridge 1-06

(match report to follow)

The U16 camogs had another win last Monday night, beating Greenlough 8:7 to 0:0. The girls expected Greenlough to be up for this match Eoghan Rua having put them out of Championship this year in a fairly close contest.  However with a quick scored goal from Claire-Louise Grant, the opposition’s heads seemed to go down.  A point from Claire Tracey followed then a goal from Maria Mooney taken from a free.  The half time score 2:1 to 0:0.  Greenlough mounted a few attacks in the second half but the backs cleared them easily. Second half scorers were Rosanna McAleese 2:2, Claire Tracey 0:2, Katie Burns 1:0, Anna Moloney 1:0, Claire-Loiuse Grant 1:0 and Maria Mooney 0:2 (45s).  The game finished a comfortable 8:7 to 0:0.

U16 camogs fall in C'ship final

The U16b final v Dungiven was a fast competitive game from the start, with both teams proving fit and skillful.  A very strong Dungiven defence worked hard to keep the Eoghan Rua forwards’ scores down whilst their own forwards put a lot of pressure on the Eoghan Rua backs.  Dungiven went in at half time 2 points up.  The second half was again very intense with Maria Mooney outstanding, clearing the ball on numerous occasions.  Katie Mullan top scored for Eoghan Rua 1:4, 2 45’s but Dungiven, by using their subs, kept fresh legs on her to keep down the scores.  Hard work and a lot of running from Eilis McNamee, Rosanna McAleese , Claire Tracey and Megan Kerr meant that Dungiven had to fight for every score, with Claire Hill blocking a lot of attacks and using her speed to make things difficult for the Dungiven midfield.  Final score 3:17 to 3:04 but in the words of referee Margaret Brolly, the score did not reflect the game.  With many of this team still very young, the girls will be strong contenders for Championship next year. Maria Mooney was deservedly awarded Player of the Final.
